As I spent the Thanksgiving weekend pondering gratitude, MySpace made the top of my list of things to be grateful for. If it were not for MySpace, my professional life no doubt would be much less fulfilling. And for that, I will be eternally grateful to MySpace and the “Nonprofit Organizations&# MySpace community.

Make sure you are tracking your “unique visitors&# to your organization’s website from month-to-month. Online giving in 2008 was up 44% from 2007.

They move with you to The Next Big Thing i.e., from MySpace to Facebook to Twitter to Foursquare. I first got on MySpace in February 2006 when I created a portal to Nonprofit Organizations on MySpace. This is when the MySpace vs. Facebook debate began to rage in the blogoshphere. The community was red hot.

MySpace estimates that 50% of its Website traffic will be mobile within 24 months. mobile subscribers… triple the number of how many text messages were sent in 2007. Two organizations that have been early adopters and pioneers in their use of social media are the National Wildlife Federation and the World Wildlife Fund.

Organization: The Nature Conservancy. Organization Size: +1 million members, +3800 staff. What was the very first social media tool your organization utilized, and when? My guess would be either MySpace, YouTube, or Facebook Causes. I know our YouTube channel started in 2007. Name: Amy Ganderson.

In June 2007, I presented my first social media training to a small group of nonprofits in Lowell, MA. At the time, nonprofits were primarily only using Myspace and YouTube. The media had made Myspace, and social networking in general, out to be dangerous, life-threatening even. Social media is not a fad.
