But once you put that data out there, and you have contacts who can see it, you’ve lost control of that data – any of your contacts could make that data about you public.

Email open rates declined 1%, compared to a 3% decrease between 2006 and 2007. Other interesting findings include: For email newsletters, open rates and click-through rates fell slightly (1-2%) in 2008, though the changes were not strictly statistically significant. This is down from 19% in 2007 and 21% in 2006.
