That ethos continued until the last three years or so with issues in Burma, Iran, and China. In Iran we’ve seen it used to get out information and resist censorship but have also seen it used by the government to alter a mobile phone system and monitoring calls. Technology is amoral – it doesn’t care.

People have been silenced throughout time by media outlets, governments and authority figures who strive to keep minorities and protestors at bay. Women in Iran and protestors on Wall Street think so. The impending protest would have been via cell phones and social media. Social media may be changing that across the globe.
