Last week for WeAreMedia project, I put a call on Twitter for case studies, best practices, and links about nonprofits using social networking sites, including Ning. Nonprofits, support groups, and nonprofit professionals have found their homes on Ning. But many nonprofits are using Ning for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and learning.

The Community Media Workshop is a media organization in Chicago that trains nonprofits to tell their stories to the media, tips sensitive journalists to the importance of these stories, and tries to create better relationships between the media and the diverse communities in Chicago. Why did you select ning? Ning is also very flexible.

Marc Andreessen, who is, of late, connected to Ning, has a great blog entry with details. Google has a number of partners, including social network sites like LinkedIn, Friendster and Ning, as well as Salesforce, which does have very interesting implications given the increasing use of Salesforce in the nonprofit sector.

I've already started updating the feeds on the homepage to aggregate Ida-related information, but there are still some tasks to be done. He set up a Ning site Hurricane Information Center. Ida is expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast near the Alabama/Florida border late Monday or early Tuesday.
