I've been using online wikis - documents and more recently, spreadsheet wikis for the past year. Wikis are just great for that! Some folks just aren't comfortable with using wikis yet. One colleague told me that they were allergic to wikis! I'm not going to ditch email or listservs anytime soon.

Set up an event wiki. Wikis can take the shape of the event and its participants and range from more to less formal. Set up a Twitter ' Tweme ' feed so that you can consolidate all of the Tweets of participants at the event. (Slideshare is the YouTube of the PowerPoint presentation for those who don't know it yet.)

Andy Roberts has a good roundup of advice for encouraging participation on wikis, yet another new kind of online community. There I'm thinking of things like wikis, social networking applications that allow you to eavesdrop on what your friends are doing (this is how I think of subscribing to a colleague's del.icio.us Paying attention and contributing to listservs is a part of my job.
