One of the key leaders I met described China as "Europe in the cities, Africa in the countryside." In addition to the products and brands I knew, there were quite a number of China-specific brands (like 361 degrees and Sept Wolves). The department stores reminded me a lot of Macy's. And, there was an incredible building boom going on.

Sir Ben described Jeff as a "living Silk Road," invoking the image of the original Silk Road making connections between Asia and Europe and bringing trade and knowledge. I got to sit behind Sir Ben Kingsley: imagine sitting within touching distance of an avatar of Gandhi! eBay to Participant Productions. But, it was definitely exciting!

I've met with Thulsi, the executive director, in Europe at different events, but this was my first time on his (impressive) home turf. He came back from a visit to the United States impressed with McDonald's as a service delivery system, and decided to bring that same systematic approach to eye care.

There’s no other place where I can have a hundred useful conversations in one week with people from Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America, Oceania, and yes, North American and even California. The Skoll team has pulled off critical mass in attendees, which makes it incredibly efficient for organizations like mine with a global focus.
