Basically, Kintera is taking directly from Salesforce ’s playbook.

At first blush, although Kintera officially got out the door first, announcing Connect weeks ago, and delivering the APIs and docs on Friday, their play is a good start, but Convio, announcing Open tomorrow, appears to be ahead in terms of providing real openness. Kintera’s Connect has an API that can do some very important things.

Constant Contact (a SaaS provider of email delivery) uses IBM DB2. Kintera uses something proprietary, as well as Convio. Yes, there are licensing fees, but they pale in comparison to what it would cost if we had to rely on an open source product and maintain it ourselves. Other companies in the NP space are similar.

Get Active (best for advocacy, easiest to use email tool) Kintera (big program and lots of features are not necessarily used) Convio (fundraising) Blackbaud. Constant contact??? Not of the methods are easy or cost-effective Can contact them ??? Constant contact is cheap and good for organizations with under 10,000 names.
