Hashtags and their usefulness are definitely open to interpretation. I use it to call people to action to benefit a nonprofit/charity: Example Tweet: #CharityTuesday :: Add a “Cause&# Twibbon to your Twitter Avatar: [link]. If every one of your tweets has a hashtag, some people will question your intentions for using them.

It must be downloaded and is available only to nonprofit organizations.
