The fundraising goal for Give to the Max Day is to get 35,000 people to support their favorite regional charity, raising more than $3 million in donations and grants in just 24 hours! I said that I wished contest designers would take a Hippocratic Oath to do no harm to nonprofits! Designate a cheer leader.

Note From Beth: I’m a huge fan of Giving Days because they raise the awareness, engagement, and donations to nonprofits and being generous. Last week, we watched as a national day of giving and awareness campaign for “Giving Tuesday” unfold and spur spikes in donations.

At the end of that panel, we all hoped there would be a larger nonprofit presence on the agenda for this 2009. And yes, indeed, in 2009, there were more nonprofit focused panels and happily the trend continued at SXSW 2010. Online contests that award dollars to nonprofit causes are here to stay. What are they good for?
