2008 was a benchmark year in online fundraising history as Obama won the presidential election with 87% of funds coming through social networking. While there are many new and exciting organizations and platforms emerging we are speaking with three we know at the forefront - Causes.com, American Cancer Society, and StartSomeGood.com.

October 2007 This campaign was for $1,000 to send a young Cambodian woman, Leng Sopharath, to college.

Last December, I watched Twitter turn into a sea of frozen green peas to support Susan Reynolds in her fight against breast cancer and to raise money for research in her honor. I've been online since the days of early dial-up modems, so I was participating in social networks before the term "social media" was even used.
