Kathleen McLean led a terrific session called "Dangerous Ridiculous" about risk-taking in museums. While I'm always inspired by stories of how we take risks to make programming more relevant and dynamic (thanks, Lisa Lee and the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum ), I was particularly struck by Kathy's thoughtful framing of the session.

On Wednesday, August 8, over 300 museum professionals joined CFM director Elizabeth Merritt and Seema Rao, principal of Brilliant Idea Studio , to explore self-care in the museum workplace. It can be hard to move against the tide about this, but try to focus your own thought away from seeing ‘being stressed” as equivalent to “trying”.

Today is my one-year anniversary as the executive director of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History. We have new support from foundations and individuals who care about innovation in audience engagement—and even more importantly, participants who are excited to experiment with us. It is incredibly rewarding work. I feel lucky.
