I raised money to help sponsor the first Cambodian Bloggers conference and raised a lot of the money via Twitter as Shel Israel noted in his book, Twitterville. I also used Twitter to get 300 t-shirts donated to bring over for the conference. Leng graduated from college and is married. My children will meet her for the first time.

The morning included a speech by Kari Dunn Saratovsky who talked offline/online connections as well as some of the challenges that charities face such as cause fatigue and slacktivism. . Was it all hype? . This was the culmination of the summer long initiative to help raise money.

Geoff Livingston invited me to keynote the conference along with Shel Israel , author of Twitterville. This made think of whether trust is only built from knowing someone offline or not. I think the above example shows it might go both ways.

My goal was to ask online and offline for $10 gifts and hope that 100 people donate the $1,000 needed. This might seem so 1980's, but I ran into Chris at a local social networking event last night. Owyang and I asked him to support my campaign in person. I was initially doing it through Facebook and thought it would take three or four weeks.
