Earlier today, I attended the American Foundation for the Blind’s (AFB) National Leadership Conference in Chicago where I received the 2013 Migel Medal. The Migel Medal, often called the highest honor in the blindness field, is awarded annually to one or two individuals whose careers exemplify exceptional accomplishments in the field.

While I was at the ATIA conference in Florida, our Director of Marketing was in Washington DC at another conference. But, it's not just in Washington DC. Our staff are all over the country and the world spreading the word. Betsy Burgess got to run into Senator Harkin, who exclaimed "I love Bookshare!"

I recently spoke at the Silicon Valley Human Rights Conference , where I talked about technology for human rights defenders. I’m thinking a great deal these days about human rights and about doing more for the field.

I began my travels in Cambodia, where the HRP was asked to participate in a conference that brought together experts who could advise and train Afghan human rights groups documenting human rights violations – or those who planned to do so in the future.
