I am in Cambodia as part of Tech2Empower , an initiative of Wake. Advisers contribute their skills and expertise to provide training and mentoring to help amplify the work of anti-trafficking organizations in Cambodia. I’ve also taught social media to young people in Cambodia.

I have two adopted children from Cambodia, and both these young women lived in the same orphanage as my daughter. Education in Cambodia is the path out of poverty and I am grateful that the modest amount of royalties from book sales have helped these young women make a better life.

For Twitter to be at its peak in utility, people who would have never had access to the world's information need to be able to not only receive it but engage with it, too. Room to Read , a San Francisco based non-profit, will help us make that happen by bringing libraries and literacy to the world's poorest regions.

Note from Beth: As a supporter of the work that the Sharing Foundation does for children in Cambodia, I’ve seen first hand the value of literacy programs in developing countries. Our connection to Kenya remains strong; we are also the guardians for one of the children from that orphanage, @sammyikua , who now studies in Maine.

The Sharing Foundation's mission is to help meet the physical, emotional, educational and medical needs of orphaned and seriously disadvantaged children in Cambodia. Beth is on the Board of the Foundation, and she and her husband have two children, Harry and Sara, who were adopted as orphans from Cambodia.

Cambodia brought me my two beautiful children and I felt strongly that we should give back to the country in some way. I committed to supporting Leng Sopharath's education for four years as well as providing moral support through regular letters we exchange. I've been thinking about her senior year and how to cover that.
