I've been enjoying a few blissful weeks at home but am now hitting the road for a series of conferences and work trips, and I wanted to let you know where I'll be if you want to meet up or come to an event. Many of the talks are related to The Participatory Museum and I will have books for sale on all of these forays.

This week, we're covering the first objective in Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff's book Groundswell : listening (chapter 5). Consequences of Listening Two years ago at the ASTC conference, an exhibits director told a story about giving clipboards to all of their teen floor staff with a list of every exhibit in the museum.

In DC, I worked half-time for NASA as an electrical engineer and half-time for the Capital Children's Museum (now defunct) as a science educator. The blog started with a conference experience. I'd been attending conferences like ASTC for a couple of years and had mostly been incredibly shy. I made $26/hour at NASA and $7.25/hour

I've written before about techniques for talking to strangers, looking at how buttons , buses , and dogs and can all be tools for participatory design. I used that instruction recently to kick off a meeting at a museum planning a participatory education space. These activities are not always grounds for participatory encounters.
