It’s called mountaintop removal and it is the most common mining in West Virginia and Appalachia generally. MTM SPECIFICALLY ALLOWED UNDER SMCRA MTM is a mining method that the United States government is largely responsible for creating. Another kind of mining made today’s news. It is just what the name implies.
