It was a local history urban scavenger hunt that sent teams of 2-5 people out into the city to track down as many historic checkpoints as they could over the course of an evening. Yes, there was the 40-ish lawyer who effused that she'd never seen so many young people in the museum before. Performances just for teens.

Over 150,000 people have accessed the free online version. A black box with people crowded around, talking and sharing and making and doing. Now, I look back on the book and the biggest thing I see missing are the people inside that box. But almost ALL of those opportunities are facilitated by people.

It was fascinating to see people--across social differences--responding to representations of love in the paintings, images, objects and narratives that were part of the installation. The exhibition is far from perfect, but it's a big step towards reflecting the "thriving, central gathering place" of our strategic vision.

As Eric said at one point, "kids--our target audience--are living in a world of things they choose to consume that is so full of sex, so full of irony, so full of subjectivity, and when they come to the museum it is one of the few places in the world they don't see that stuff. It let her know that people were reading it and cared.

Are there any more wonderful places? According to Erica, it makes the library truly of the people and for the people. People can walk in and ask to see (and touch!) anything they are interested in because everything in the library is for the people. Ah, public libraries! That funding model is a powerful one.

It does everything a great documentary story can do: it takes you into another world, introduces you to unforgettable people, defies expectations, and delivers tough realities instead of fairy tales.
