The other thing is that a lot of inner cities are part of empowerment zones or enterprise zones where companies that are at a certain scale and profitable can benefit from tax credits, both from the payroll side, if you hire from the inner city, but also if you locate in the enterprise zones. They're artists so they think big.

Then, I started going around the country teaching workshops around spiritual activism: why it's important to take your yoga off the mat and into the world, and the different ways that we can get involved. When I went in to meet these kids, I thought I'd teach them a little bit of yoga, help them out. I didn't realize this until later.

Britt Bravo: In so many of the groups you profiled, the women were using the arts for education, empowerment, or healing. Right at the end of that period, I also was teaching. And second, I was exhausted from having continued to do consulting and teaching at the same time. I thought, "My God, I've just bought myself a year!"
