No matter what mission a nonprofit is dedicated to, be it health care, housing, conservation, etc., My parents realized that my cultural heritage would mostly be a footnote in history text books throughout my formal education, would be under-represented or poorly represented in the media, and would generally be misunderstood by many.

She is currently an Associate Professor of History and American Studies at William & Mary where she researches, teaches, and writes about early America. This second point reminded me of some work I did with The Nature Conservancy in their efforts to support knowledge-sharing among conservation practitioners.

Jimmie Alford, one of the great fundraisers in America, told me a story a few years ago, which was about this volunteer who had to raise money for mental health in a community. ” You have lots of competition, you know, there’s a million charities in North America, and then the nonprofits outside of charitable giving.

We did John Kerry for President, before that, Howard Dean for America. We've been friends since we were seven, so we already had a very long collaborative history. Louis is a traditional artist and I was in the journalism field. We have offices in Washington DC and in Berkeley, California, and there are about 25 of us now.
