On January 12, 2010, I didn't personally experience the major earthquake that hit Haiti, but I was forever changed by it. But I wasn't prepared for the type of incoming information I saw in the weeks after January 12, 2010. . The American Red Cross is now looking into how best to give the public an increased role in disaster response.

The infographic focuses on four initiatives — the response to the 2010 Haiti Earthquake, Charity: Water , Tweet Drive , and Twestival — and breaks down the campaigns’ success (how many people participated, how much money was raised, etc.). In addition to campaigns, social media plays an important role at many socially conscious companies.

This year, the American Association of Museums annual conference was in Los Angeles (my hometown). Beck talked about her role as the only tech person at a mid-sized science museum as one of capacity-building. It featured mariachis, an extraordinarily odd panorama , and a fabulous beer hall with superb french fries.
