The first social enterprise model was documented there in 1990 (Defourny, HulgÄrd, & Pestoff, 2014). Another example is Goodwill, a nonprofit that sells merchandise to support its core function of finding jobs for hard-to-place individuals. The core mission is thereby freed from total dependence upon the decisions of donors.
