Eric Overman, Operation Smile, received the Nonprofit Marketer of the Year Award, and Anne Bergquist, YMCA of Metro Chicago received the Special Marketing Initiatives and subcategory award. In 2009, the Austin American Statesman recognized David as one of the top 25 Social Media People in the state of Texas.

The SXSW Interactive Festival (scheduled March 11-15, 2010 in Austin, Texas) is a mega huge social media industry event. Online contests that award dollars to nonprofit causes are here to stay. Illustration by Jonny Goldstein of my SXSW panel proposal. In 2008, I was honored to be on one of the few nonprofit panels on the agenda.

The pre-screening previewed video from organizations including the Miracle Foundation and the Scottish Rite Learning Center , and the LCH organization is aiming high to recieve more submissions in 2010 than 2009. Think it could win awards? The festival will be held July 29-August 1 in Austin, Texas. All entries are free.

2009 was the first year of the contest, which was the brainchild of Gretchen Hoffman and Jane Kirchner in AFT’s Marketing department, and Julia Freedgood, Director of AFT's Growing Local Campaign.
