Here’s some news on a now famous NetSquared alumnus project. Ushahidi is an NGO headquartered in Kenya. Ushahidi was a NetSquared Mashup Challenge winner in the fabled 2008 Netsquared conference in Santa Clara, California. I first heard about this from Marnie Webb, who co-founded NetSquared.

TechSoup's NetSquared Initiative partnered with the HRC in the first conference The Soul of the New Machine in 2009 to help select a winner in their Mobile Challenge. Using an event such as the 2008 financial crisis as a backdrop, he hopes to be able to back-test his hypothesis against the volumes of data generated around the same time.

Another blogger, Chak Sopheap , who now works as a program officer at the NGO, The Human Rights Center. In 2007 at the bloggers summit, she facilitated a session about gender and blogging. She remembered fondly, the netsquared t-shirt that she had selected from the donated t-shirts. All in all, it was a exciting evening.
