Leng Sopharath is one of 19 college students being sponsored for college through a program of the Sharing Foundation , an ngo that works directly with local officials, orphanages, and NGOs in Cambodia to identify and carry out projects which improve the lives of children.

In December 2006, I launched my first experiment in using social media for fundraising - raising $800 on my blog to help send Leng Sopharath, a young Cambodian woman, to her freshman year at college. I have used social media to help raise the money for her tuition through the Sharing Foundation in 2007 and 2008.

Every time Dr. Hendrie travels back from Cambodia, we had a special briefing meeting for the Sharing Foundation volunteers and board members. I wrote quite a bit about TSF's sewing program and how the sewing girls in this program (like Sina ) make the uniforms for poor and disadvantaged children. Photo in my flickr stream here.

I took that photo back in 2004 when I had the opportunity to visit Cambodia and observe all programs for a week. The children sat at their desks, quietly writing the khmer letters on their little chalk boards. Heres a recent photo of Jack and Mom taken in December 2007.
