One new initiative that I got to hear about was the L3C proposed in North Carolina. North Carolina is interested, because they see it as a way to buy unused industrial properties and make them available to businesses that could resume making furniture (since NC has been losing these jobs to Asia).

People who invested in top micro-credit enterprises making low-income housing loans such as Self-Help in North Carolina — good loans, not the predatory ones — realized three or four percent yields, which these days looks pretty good. The top performing asset class for the last year was social investing in opportunity finance.
