My contribution to the panel is to provide context about the use of social media in emergency and disaster response as well as an overview of some of the tools we saw deployed last year and we may see in the future. Another direct content example is that of the number of websites that emerged post-Hurricane Katrina.

September is Preparedness Month: We know that September is usually a bad month for hurricanes and other natural disasters. They're encouraging folks to submit proposals. (I'll be delivering the keynote, my first in a virtual 3d environment.). It's called Why Congo Matters. NTEN has two fantastic events this month!
