On April 16-18, 2023, 3,600+ fundraising professionals descended on New Orleans, LA for AFP ICON’s 63 rd annual conference, the largest turnout in six years. One private school set a reasonable goal of $4,000 to help raise relief funds for the earthquakes in Syria. AFP ICON also hosted two inspirational general sessions.

Best Use of Integrated Marketing – ANERA – Due to the influx of new refugees from Syria to Lebanon’s refugee camps, ANERA had to raise funds quickly to respond to the increased need of essential supplies. This year, the 2014 Impact Awards will be announced in Nashville, TN at the Blackbaud Conference for Nonprofits.

bbcon 2013 , Blackbaud’s Conference for Nonprofits concluded last week, and as I remember some of my favorite moments during the conference, one tops them all. The Silicon Valley Human Rights Conference hosted a series of discussions about how technology is used to expand and sometimes undermine essential freedoms around the world. The conference offered stark reminders of the pressures on human rights activists and the complicity of companies who yield to authoritarian regimes.

Over 8 weeks this last fall, I had the privilege of working with NGOs from Afghanistan, Cambodia, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, in a series of trainings that took place in Phnom Penh, Beirut and Istanbul. Panelists at the conference included the Guatemala Forensic Anthropology Foundation (FAFG), Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), ICTJ, and DC-Cam.
