Last year, the DIA was saved from financial crisis by voters in its three neighboring counties who elected to take on an additional property tax to support the museum.

The Public Argument About Arts Support as Seen through the Lens of the Detroit Institute of Arts

Residents in the three counties that pay the millage will receive special benefits : free admission to the museum and expanded educational programming. This perspective was rampant in Michigan. Successful argument: Great museums improve quality of life and the value of the region. Several Detroit comments were in this vein.
