Examples from Haiti. Let’s look at a couple of the main examples from the Haiti earthquake response.

In 2005, that changed: when Hurricane Katrina hit, technology for disaster response made the leap from field workers to those affected. Within a week came the Katrina People Finder , aggregating data into one central location. Just a few short years ago, technology in disaster response was a different animal all together.

On January 12, 2010, I didn't personally experience the major earthquake that hit Haiti, but I was forever changed by it. In the midst of the viral Text HAITI to 90999 message, we saw the emergence of what we're calling emergency social data, or #crisisdata. Melissa Eliott was heavily involved in the Haiti relief effort as a volunteer.
