I'm going back to Haiti in the next few days and need help to give hands-on help to our kids and the townspeople.

Within a week came the Katrina People Finder , aggregating data into one central location. Two revolutions happened then: We were able to scale an organized solution that allowed disaster victims and their families to play an important role in the recovery process, rather than passively waiting for help.

Allyson Kapin writes up an article for the Care2 blog about the impact of mobile fundraising for the Red Cross (txt "Haiti" to 90999 to send $10!) aggregates resources in nonprofit technology topics.

On January 12, 2010, I didn't personally experience the major earthquake that hit Haiti, but I was forever changed by it. In the midst of the viral Text HAITI to 90999 message, we saw the emergence of what we're calling emergency social data, or #crisisdata. Melissa Eliott was heavily involved in the Haiti relief effort as a volunteer.

Microsoft researchers are collaborating with the academic community on environmental problems, such as aggregation and visualization of complex scientific data from many sources. Ben Horin noted that TechSoup Global did not have a partner in Haiti, but they did in Chile.
