I also use it as a year in review tool. This year I used a new tool recommended by colleague Alexandra Samuel, the “ Year Compass, a free downloadable booklet that provides a set of structured reflection questions. .” I use it for planning and goal setting as well as to reflect along the way.

Clay’s book talks about the implications of a society shifting from passive consumption of media to creators of media or being participatory. Access to cheap,flexible tools removes many of the barriers to trying new things. They will help when they are invited to. The book give us the 50,000 mile high view.

The Denver Art Museum is no stranger to community collaborations, but we’ve been dipping in our toe a little more deeply when it comes to developing permanent participatory installations. Looking back at my team’s original goals for the Thread Studio, none of them mention it becoming an ongoing hub of community activity.

Rock climbing (safely) is a two-person activity. The gym staff aren’t offering instruction or serving as users’ partners; instead, they facilitate connections among the users. A few suggestions for how to think strategically about hosting them: Provide activities or offerings that align with your desired image. Talk to the folks at Instructables. Use online search tools like Technorati, Google blog search, and searches on individual networking sites to quantify the output of these events.

The convenors set up a lovely wiki and gave us specific instructions to answer research questions posed on a series of pages. But wikis are a very specific tool. The participatory "ask" is high--to create original content. The wiki has to be the best tool for the job. When is a wiki the best tool for the job?
