The November 2012 General Assembly took place in Bangkok, Thailand. Under the theme “Achieving Our Vision through Empowerment and Partnerships,” this was the first-ever combined General Assembly of both WBU and the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment ( ICEVI ), another world-class organization in the field.

That said, in 2012 I had the opportunity to travel to Africa and Asia and from those travel experiences three themes emerged that inspired the selection of this year’s nonprofits: 1) Women’s and girls empowerment; 2) Conservation of wildlife and wild lands; and 3) Access to medical care.
