Kony 2012 turned slacktivism on its head. In the end, Kony 2012 made some noise and was a success, but it was still considered slacktivism. A portion of sales from each shirt also aided the zoo’s work to conserve wild orangutans. But does that really help? The arms of social media only stretch so far, and Russell knew that.
