If a social mashup starts making money from ads, how would that be split up between the host site, the app developer, and all the other applications or social networks from which that mashup pulls data? O’Reilly doesn’t really have an answer for that one.

One of the best examples of the use of APIs are Google Map mashups. Folks at NTEN have been thinking about APIs , and will host a discussion about them on Friday. These are using data in your own databases, and grabbing maps from google maps and putting them inside your application.

At the end of that panel, we all hoped there would be a larger nonprofit presence on the agenda for this 2009. And yes, indeed, in 2009 there were many more panel proposals. Last year, many more nonprofit panels made it onto the agenda and there was even a nonprofit lounge hosted by BeaconFire. .
