Ushahidi got its start in early 2008. The NetSquared Challenges Foster Tech Innovation. and that year we came in second.

The organization got started when a group of Kenyan bloggers led by Erik Hersman began doing online mapping of violence reports after the 2008 Kenyan election. During the early days of our Netsquared project , we held big annual conferences to showcase and fund innovative tech for good. So much innovation.

The panelists include Holly Ross, NTEN ; David Neff , American Cancer Society; Kari Dunn Saratovsky ; Case Foundation; Amy Sample Ward , Netsquared; and Joe Solomon. One of these is "community funded reporting" which is being pioneered by Spot.us
