Yesterday's Huffington Post article, 500,000 Iraqis Refugees in 2007 , reported that, "A half-million Iraqis fled their embattled country in 2007, the third consecutive year more Iraqis were displaced than any other nationality." The Dispatch also reports that the reason for the increase is the war in Iraq.

One of the most successful organizations at showing their activities as tangible items is Heifer International – where you can actually gift a water buffalo to a poor family in a developing nation. In his email he tells me that they have opened up their budgets and now I can sponsor a specific aspect of their Iowa campaign.

The show ended, and I immediately signed up to be a Women for Women International sponsor. Women for Women is a nonprofit that pairs women survivors of war with women sponsors all over the world. Sponsors give $27/month to fund a survivor's basic needs, as well as seed money to start income generating projects.
