DOI Recognized for AI/ML Innovations to Address Workforce Retention

The U.S. Department of the Interior’s “My DOI Career” platform has received an honorable mention from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

As part of the 2023 HRM Impact Award, DOI was awarded an honorable mention for its project, My DOI Career. We’re thrilled for our colleagues at DOI for this well-deserved recognition and incredibly proud of the Forum One team that was involved.

About the HRM Impact Award

SIOP and SHRM share a deep commitment to promoting human resource management practices that contribute to the success of today’s global work organizations, making them better places in which to work. The two societies jointly believe that publicizing the best available evidence on the usefulness and impact of successfully-implemented innovative human resource management (HRM) initiatives is key to improving practices across industries. The HRM Impact Award was designed with this in mind.

About the My DOI Career website

My DOI Career was created to address retention challenges, connect employees to development and growth opportunities within the Department, and recruit the next generation of DOI employees.

The website provides prospective employees with a customized list of jobs that match their skills, interests, and experience. It provides paths to help advance their career, let current DOI employees know how to find another job within the Department, and improve their skillsets through training.

Using ML/AI to support workforce retention

Forum One and our partners at Polydelta provided strategic consulting to determine possible Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) use cases and developed an AI and ML product that provides DOI with the best return on investment.

The platform was designed and developed with clear and engaging pathways for both government and non-government visitors to learn about career possibilities through multiple lenses, including a “Find Your Path” interactive quiz driven by React technology that presents relevant resources based on an individual’s career goals, experience, and skills. Site visitors can also explore, search, and filter resources and opportunities for career development based on role, location, level, DOI bureau, and individual skills and strengths.

We’re pleased to see the impact that the My DOI Career site has made so far, and the recognition from SIOP and SHRM is the absolute cherry on top. Congratulations to everyone for their hard work! We look forward to seeing how this helps to grow an even stronger workforce at DOI.
