According to a recent poll conducted by The Canadian Women’s Foundation, two-thirds (65%) of people in Canada know a woman who has experienced abuse, either emotional, physical, or sexual. The study found that rates of gender-based violence in Canada are heightened, and rates are higher for Indigenous women, Black women, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, racialized women, women with disabilities, and other marginalized individuals. The study determined that women are five times more likely to be sexually assaulted and more likely to be sexually harassed at work. In addition, in 2023, femicide occurred every 48 hours in Canada. The results of the study are alarming, and The Canadian Women’s Foundation offers guidance and resources to guide Canadians toward a safer future.
