York University’s Institute for Social Research conducted the Black Canadian National Survey, which found that Black Canadians perceive workplaces to be the epicentre of racial discrimination. Alarmingly, 75% of Black Canadians reported experiencing racism in the workplace. And another 47% of Black people surveyed perceived that they are or have been treated unfairly by an employer in hiring, pay, or promotion in the last year. Furthermore, the study found that 90% of Black Canadians indicated that it is important to promote racial and ethnic diversity in the workplace. The survey resulted in the development of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation Report which reviewed the social, political, and economic ties between race and ethnicity.
