The Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada (VMPC) Annual Conference is back, ready to gather leaders across the nation to help shape the future of the industry. This year’s conference examines different facets of volunteer engagement and features thought-provoking keynotes and advanced workshops.

Lisa Mort-Putland, Chair of Volunteer Canada, will kick off the conference with a keynote titled “The Changing Canadian Volunteer Engagement Landscape.” In the wake of the seismic impact of the pandemic, Volunteer Canada reached out to communities to find out what was new. Lisa highlights the need for leaders of volunteers to understand and respond to the new volunteering landscape.  In Lisa’s words, “Engagement is critical for where we are all headed next, and it matters more than ever.”

Lexi White, conference chair, shares Lisa’s enthusiasm, saying, “Lisa’s keynote sets the tone for the entire conference, a rallying call for the importance of engagement in charting the course ahead.”

On the second day, Rob Jackson of Rob Jackson Consulting takes the stage to explore topics that often go unaddressed. With a keynote titled “What Volunteer Engagement Professionals Aren’t Thinking About,” Rob dives into hot topics that will inevitably have an impact on the field of volunteerism. From the impact of Artificial Intelligence and driverless vehicles to the transformative potential of Universal Basic Income, Rob’s insights are sure to spark discussions. As he puts it, “We need to consider the new horizons brought by technology, the changing dynamics of work, and the profound implications of the pandemic on both physical and mental health.”

Lexi adds, “Rob challenges us to broaden our perspective and consider factors that may be overlooked. The future of volunteerism intersects with broader societal changes, and Rob’s insights will undoubtedly ignite conversations that will shape our collective approach.”

Together, these two keynotes create a collaborative space where professionals can exchange ideas, learn from each other, and navigate the evolving landscape of volunteer engagement. The conference will also host a myriad of engaging workshops, touching on topics such as removing barriers to volunteering, data-driven engagement, and decolonizing recruitment and screening.
