A new publication from Blumberg Segal LLP reviews the T3010 Registered Charity Information Return database for 2019 to determine the dispersion of grants allocated to Indigenous Groups. In 2019, just over 1% of grants distributed in Canada were allocated to Indigenous Groups. The total amount given by Canadian charities to Indigenous Groups was $60,568,555. Indigenous people comprise 4.9% of the population, however, Indigenous Groups only received just over 0.7% of gifted funds. Based on the population size, Indigenous groups are only receiving approximately 1/7th of the funding that they should receive as a result of their population density. Therefore, Indigenous Groups are receiving about $1 for every $138 that is given to non-Indigenous groups. Read the full article for details, click here.
