22 Online Gift Stores That Benefit Nonprofits

October 15, 2012

The National Retail Federation predicts that holiday sales this year will increase 4.1 percent to $586.1 billion and that online shopping will jump a whopping 12 percent to $96 billion. These are the best numbers we’ve seen since the beginning of the Great Recession in late December 2007. For nonprofits that have online stores or receive a percentage of profits from ethical retailers, it could be a banner year for online sales.

Thank you Heather for this great article! Shopping and DoingGood can be one in the same. As a Founding Partner of #GivingTuesday and an online retailer of charity-made products, we hope your readers will check out http://www.DoGoodBuy.Us before the holidays as well.

Sadly, it seems only really big charities have the time to create and market their products. Amazon CARES and many smaller charities use sites such as http://amazoncares.we-care.com where people can shop at manu different online merchants and a percentage is donated to the charity!

Great list, Heather! Another idea to share with your followers? Green Impressions: http://www.conservation.org/greenimpressions. These labels – which can be applied to holiday cards and envelopes – show family, friends and clients that you care about the planet and are taking steps to counter the environmental impact of a time-honored tradition.

Thanks for this great list. Autism Speaks also has an eStore at http://store.autismspeaks.org.

Another great way to shop and make a difference for your favorite NPO is to have it enroll in the Market America-Shop.com NPO program. This program doesn’t give your supporters just a few items to look at and buy — this gives your supporters entry to 3500 stores — plus they get cash back on their purchases! The NPO gets a professional consultant — at no charge — to work with them and figure out smart and effective marketing methods. The NPO Program costs the not-for-profit zero, and they get a shopping website with their name on it and royalties for their supporters shopping on the website. There are more bells and whistles, but the bottom line is that both the NPO’s supporters and the NPO get some money as they shop — it’s a win-win! You can find out more by contacting Jonathan Spinner at Real Fundraising (www.real-fundraising.com) for further information.

This is a really great list! I hope consumers pay attention this holiday season to where they buy their gifts. I am excited for this holiday season because I am a part of an organization called Our Talking Hands, working to support the deaf in Ghana. This holiday season will be the first time we have our beautiful handmade apparel available online. We have not grown so large that we have our own web-store, so we use the power of Etsy to make our items available to the public. There are an increasingly large number of fair-trade, and stores for social change on Etsy. Please don’t forget to support us as well. We may be a bit smaller, but we are making a very big impact in our communities. Please check us out at our Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/OurTalkingHands

You can also read more about us on our website at http://www.ourtalkinghands.com

Thanks so much for your interest in helping the causes of great non-profits and once again, great list!

Every human being has got social responsibility. It is the duty of every human to take care of those who are less privileged. They should extend their helping hands and light the lives of those less fortunate people. They have their place in this world and they should be given the opportunity. The elite and the educated should prove their mettle in leading them. With this objective in view, Sudar Academy and Charitable Trust was started. Our mission and vision is to educate and emancipate these less fortunate people. These differently abled should be given their place in this world. In the process, the social imbalance existing in the society should be brought down.

      Goals:
At present free education and food is being given to around thirty students, and we would like to extend it. And we are about to start an orphanage, an oldage home and a widow rehabilitation centre. But we are under financial constraint. Kindly visit http://www.sudartrust.com and donate liberally. Help us work towards bringing a balance in the society. Let us join this mission.

I am the Director of an organization called Gift Cards for a Cause (http://www.giftcardsforacause.com). It is also a great place to purchase gift cards for the holidays, birthdays, and even do your everyday shopping, while giving back at the same time. At this site, you can purchase a gift card to one of over 200 retailers, and we will donate up to 20% to the charity of your choice, while still retaining the full value of the gift card. We hope you will visit us online and on Facebook, and consider adding us to your list in rhe future. Thanks.
