Send March out with a blast to Congress

Isn’t it sad that I only blog here to introduce March and then now, to close it out?

What a month. Laini’s Bat Mitzvah is in a month. Eric spent 2 weeks in South Africa, then we went right in to Call-on Congress, C3‘s annual grassroots training and lobby day.

This year, we had 65 advocates in DC for the training March 22-25, and it was a fabulous experience. We’re still getting pictures posted, but here’s a link to some of them from Flickr. Better yet, the bill we’re championing, HR 1189 The Colorectal Cancer Prevention, Early Detection, and Treatment Act, gained new co-sponsored following Members meeting with our advocates. This bill would establish a national colorectal cancer screening program for Americans between the ages of 50-64 who do not have adequate health insurance. If cancer is found, they’d be referred to Medicare for treatment.

Today, C3 is having its 2nd Congressional Butt-in. We’re asking everyone in the United States to call 1-866-615-3375. You’ll be prompted to enter your zip code, then you’ll get some talking points and be automatically connected to your Members of Congress to ask for their support of this legislation.

“I couldn’t afford to get screened” should never be a reason for anyone to die of colorectal cancer. Your phone call could help us make a national screening program a reality.
