Stacy Surla invited me to participate remotely at the IA Summit taking place this weekend in Las Vegas on a panel about IA in Second Life and informal poster session to introduce Second Life to IA folks. I had skype with a video camera and Second Life application opened (which kept crashing my computer.)

It's Friday, it's summer, it's raining - okay that's my set of excuses for spending a little bit of time in Second Life today. But first, skim through the discussion forum on TechSoup , especially if you're new to Second Life. Second Life crashed - and we were all frozen and booted off.

The live video feed was being streamed from the Netsquared gathering in San Francisco happening at the same time as the virtual gatherng in Second Life. Jeska Linden , Community Manager for Linden Labs, has the mike in her hand, while her avatar is behind the podium in Second Life. that didn't last long or ruin the event.

Some interesting ones are: Skype — the overwhelming favorite free audio and video calling service internationally. So far, the Skype premium mobile phone app allows only group audio calls. If you’d like to just try web conferencing, there are some free web conferencing services.

Tools such as Google Hangout and Skype are increasingly being used as cost effective video conferencing training tools. Companies are exploring online virtual platforms such as second life, Minecraft, Unity, etc. Companies like IBM, Cisco are already using virtual platforms for meetings, interviews, and employee training.
