I’ll agree with Gavin, that folksonomies sure are less efficient, and a lot more messy than taxonomies. And, there is one really big thing that using taxonomies miss, that folksonomies get: who is doing the categorizing? Or adding another tag that indicates audience as Allan Benamer has suggested for his manseo search engine?

If you are using Delicious, for example, you don’t need to create a list of tags or a taxonomy you have to stick to before you actually start saving bookmarks.

If you wanted to sell this inside a corporation, show the tag stream for the tag taxonomy. However, the benefit to exposing the popular terms is that a taxonomy emerges from the bottom up. Some tools: A tool I hadn't seen was Zniff.com which is a search engine based on spurl tags - lets you do a search on the content of web pages.
