And Camfed raised $4,500 to build a roof on a school in Malawi , then turned around and funded another $3,386 project to give shoes to schoolgirls in Zimbabwe. . The Humane Society of the United States raised $20,000 in 6 days , all through their cause, to fund a team of journalists documenting the seal slaughter in Canada.

Britt Bravo: In so many of the groups you profiled, the women were using the arts for education, empowerment, or healing. A high school English teacher in Zimbabwe, whose name is Betty Makoni , began hearing stories from her students after school, that they had been raped. In 2001, I began photographing. And, their weapon is poetry.
