Via an email from Kaliya Hamlin who wants nonprofit technology folks to know about this workshop:
Internet Identity Workshop (IIW) Dec 4-6, 2006
Computer History Museum, Mountainview CA
She feels it is important for nonprofits to have a in the Internet Identity space:
It is going to be an amazing gathering of people and projects all working on innovating what I like to think of as another layer of the web for people. One of the communities that inspired this development - Planetwork has held a vision for how these emerging open standards could be used for social change. As the large companies pile in to shape what evolves it would be great to have significant participation from those working from a civil society perspective.
Kintera has chosen to integrate open identity standards and data sharing standards into their social CRM platform http://news.tmcnet.com/news/2006/11/02/2034054.htm. These standards XRI and XDI are all a part of the identity ecology and will be talked about extensively at the IIW. XRI and I-names are part of the OpenID ecology that is gaining traction on lots of grassroots sites along with big sites Technorati and Wikipedia. There is also a $50,000 bounty program for OpenID integration in major open source distribution.
It would be great to see a critical mass of civil society / nonprofit oriented folks in attendance to discuss the issues specific to adoption in that sector.
