The Ontario Nonprofit Network in collaboration with l’Assemblée de la Francophonie de l’Ontario (l’AFO), conducted a sector survey to evaluate the health of nonprofits in Ontario. The study evaluated the state of the nonprofits’ financial health, staffing and volunteers, and general operations. The survey sampled 1500 nonprofits, charities, and grassroots groups across the province.

Key findings

  • Increased demand for nonprofit services as communities are relying on nonprofits for support.
  • Revenues are decreasing as inflation rapidly raises costs for nonprofits.
  • Heightened human resources crises with nonprofits struggling to recruit and retain employees.
  • Decreased volunteerism in the wake of the pandemic, which is a major issue as nearly half of these organizations are volunteer-run.
