According to ABC news : According to the trend-tracking website Know Your Meme , the cartoon fad started with Facebook users in Greece and Cyprus in mid-November. But, what still really stands out for me, is the addition of the cause-advocacy appeal once the meme hit the English translation.

In an effort to raise awareness for child abuse, thousands of Facebook users changed their profile photos to one of their favorite childhood cartoon characters (full disclosure: mine was Underdog.) Whether it started on accident, was part of a specific campaign, or originated in Greece , this meme seemed to really have legs!

I identified a trend forming with social networking, and set up our very first profile. We still use Twitter a bit to talk about our programs, we participate and create our own memes like “ #felinefriday ”, but we focus on listening and responding to what people are already talking about. The least? Please summarize your ROI.

This technique is the " hold a sign meme " where you ask your community to send photos to flickr of you (or your animal) holding a protest sign. Today, I happened to see HSUS that staffer Carrie Lewis posted a note on her profile and it showed up on my friends feed on Facebook. The flickr pool of photos is here. Has anyone?

Approximately 85% of the donations were converted from my personal profile on Facebook. Spent $50 for a promoted post which got over 10,000 views to promote the July 3rd event, but I did not set up a way to track whether the promoted post helped boost participation in the online memorial event.
