Also, at the end when I thought I was having a private IM with a colleague to set up a play date with my kids, it was broadcast to the entire group.

The profiles were the last thing added, when we were getting into the nature of the site itself. I'm a big advocate of the profile part, and want to see it used in other ways for members to contact each other. I think a cool thing is that we took a fair amount of push on the personal profiles.

Wikis don't explicitly acknowledge individuals with "profile power"--content is prioritized, not identity. Woody launched it with an email to the ASTC listserv--a good group to target for his content. But people who read a listserv aren't necessarily incentivized to contribute to the wiki.
